Grameenphone aims to reach 50,000 more children with ‘Safe Internet’ campaign

News Hour:

Grameenphone has announced to expand its ‘Safe Internet’ campaign in collaboration with Brac.

So far, 80,000 children in 500 schools across Bangladesh have been reached with the programme.

This year, the organization, in partnership with BRAC, had set an aim to reach 50,000 more children in 250 schools around Bangladesh, said a press release from Grameenphone on Wednesday.

Grameenphone Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Mahmud Hossain said: “Being a digital services provider in Bangladesh, Grameenphone considers it a responsibility to ensure that people, especially children, get the best out of the digital technology at their disposal. Our safe internet programme, which is currently in its fourth year, is targeted towards achieving this objective, reports Dhaka Tribune.

“We believe that spread of the Internet and its benefit among people will help in reducing inequality,” he added.

Grameenphone and Telenor Group have selected Child Online Safety as part of their activities to support Sustainable Development Goals declared by the United Nations. The initiative aims to empower children to make the right decision on how to interact and engage through the internet confidently and responsibly.

BRAC Senior Director (Strategy, Communication and Empowerment) Asif Saleh said, “BRAC is delighted to partner with Grameenphone in raising awareness among children and guardians about responsible use of the internet. We believe that together we will be able to reach the target number of 50,000 this year.”
