Mars Society selected Mongol-tori from BRAC University

News Hour:

The Mars Society has been arranging University Rover Challenge (URC) every year to inspire the students to design and construct various mars rovers for the competition. Among all the countries of the word, only 32 teams get the chance to participate in the grand stage held at UTAH, USA. To participate in URC a group of enthusiastic undergraduate engineering students of BRAC University formed a group and started to build a rover.

The journey of “Mongol-Tori” started back at December 2016. “Mongol-Tori’ consisted of 16 active members alongside with two advisers. The advisers are Dr. Md. Khalilur Rhaman, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering and Md. Saiful Islam, Lecturer, Department of Computer Science & Engineering.

The team is led by Niaz Sourov, Department of EEE. The journey was not smooth. There were ups and downs. We face difficulties in finding the right parts, limited time frame also became a major obstacle. In order to complete the rover in time we divided our team in mechanical, electronics, software, communication, science task & writing sector. All the members worked very hard to make this project a success. All the hard works put a fully functioning rover in just three months. The rover is built on basic instruction given by URC authority. Just building a rover was not enough to qualify, We had to make a Critical Design Review of the rover which includes 5-minute video and  5-page of extravagant review writing of rover. We send all the necessary information to URC authority within the expire time.

Finally, after waiting long two weeks the good news came out at 21st March; “Mongol-tori” has been selected to participate in the grand stage at UTAH. This dream came into reality because of hard working, team work and proper time management. A special thanks to our team advisors who always inspired and guide us through the whole process.
