N. Korea assassination shows ‘brutality’: South’s leader

News Hour:

The assassination of the North Korean leader’s half brother in Malaysia, if confirmed, is an illustration of the brutality of the regime, South Korea’s leader said Wednesday, reports BSS.

“If confirmed, the murder of Kim Jong-Nam would be an example that shows the brutality and inhumane nature of the North Korean regime,” acting leader Hwang Kyo-Ahn told a meeting of top security officials, according to his spokesman.

“We’re taking this incident very seriously and we’re keeping close tabs on the North”, Hwang said at an unscheduled meeting of the National Security Council (NSC), a top state body handling security issues.

Jong-Nam was killed a day earlier at Kuala Lumpur International Airport by alleged female North Korean agents, according to South Korean media. Hwang said South Korean authorities were in close cooperation with their Malaysian counterparts with the investigation.

The acting leader also urged the NSC to remain vigilant against possible provocative acts from the North.
