Mustafizur wins ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year award

News Hour:

Bangladeshi bowling sensation Mustafizur Rahman has named the Emerging Cricketer of the Year by the International Cricket Council (ICC). He is the first Bangladeshi cricketer who won the annual ICC award, according to ICC’s media release.

During the period of consideration of performance from Oct 14, 2015 to Sept 20, 2016, the cutter master took eight wickets in three one-day international matches and 19 wickets in ten T20 matches.

“This award is the best gift of the year for me,” the 21-year-old bowler was quoted an ICC statement as saying on Thursday.

“I’m delighted and proud to win this award, especially since it’s the first time that a Bangladesh player has won an ICC award.”

Thus far Mustafiz has played a total of 24 international matches across the three formats. In that time the bowling sensation has bagged 52 wickets.

He is currently in New Zealand as part of the Bangladesh team’s tour. He returned from injury to claim two wickets at the tour match on Thursday.

“To play international cricket is the dream for every budding cricketer and it has indeed been a dream come true for me too,” said Mustafiz. “I want to thank everyone who has supported me over the years and promise to give my best at every opportunity.”
