Twelve people, including 11 children, were killed and 20 more others were injured Sunday in a road accident in Russia’s eastern Siberia, said local prosecutors office.
A bus carrying 29 children aged between 12 and 14 and three adults collided with a truck in the incoming lane on a highway linking two Siberian oil towns, Khanty-Mansiysk and Tumen. The children who belong to an acrobatics team were returning from a competition in another city when the accident occurred, local emergencies service reported, reports BSS.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation. The Investigative Committee said it would look at different factors including low visibility and bad weather conditions.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his condolence to the families of those killed in the accident and a day of mourning will be observed in the Khanty-Mansiysk district on Monday.
