Convict war criminal of Bangladesh Mir Quasem Ali was executed at 10:35 pm on Saturday night at Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur for his crime against humanity during the Liberation war of 1971.
After over four years of trial, the 63-year-old Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami central leader was executed. A team of hangmen carried out the execution.
Mir Quasem, the Jamaat-e-Islami leader who was sentenced to death for crimes against humanity will be buried at his ancestral home in Harirampur upazila of Manikganj.Three ambulances is ready to carry the body of Mir Quasem to his village home in Manikganj.
Earlier, the government has tightened up the security at the Kashimpur jail and its surrounding areas in Gazipur ahead of the execution of war criminal Mir Quasem Ali.
Inspector General of Prisons Brig Gen Syed Iftekhar Uddin entered Kashimpur jail around 6:57pm, hours after an executive order to execute Quasem reached prison authorities this afternoon.
Earlier the family members of condemned war criminal Mir Quasem Ali met him at Kashimpur Central Jail-2 in Gazipur as he may be executed any time following his decision not to seek mercy. Mir Quasem’s family members including his wife and offspring entered the jail premises around 3:40pm on Saturday, the jail authorities said.A total of 43 members of the family including their kids have met him in jail and came out around 6.35pm on the day.Earlier in the day, Family of the Jamaat moneyman was asked to meet him at the jail this afternoon.
The execution of Jamaat-e-Islami leader’s death sentence now only awaits the government’s green signal as the war crimes convict have refused to seek presidential mercy.
However, the government did not say officially until Saturday morning when the wartime terror of Chittagong will be hanged.Mir Quashem’s family sources said the Department of Prisons sent them a letter around 9:00am asking them to meet him at the jail at 3:30pm.The letter mentioned that 22-23 visitors can meet him at the jail.Earlier, the jail authorities started the process of hanging Mir Quasem Ali as per the Supreme Court verdict following his decision not to seek presidential mercy.
