Top order batsman Mominul Haque scored the second- fastest Test century as a Bangladeshi batsman during the first innings of the first Test against touring Sri Lanka at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong today, reports BSS.
Riding on his century, Bangladesh reached a commanding position on the first day of the Test.
Southpaw batsman Mominul came into the crease when Tamim Iqbal fell in the 16th overs after scoring 52 runs off 53-ball. Mominul’s approach was positive in the beginning and reached his half-century from 59 balls.
The Left-hand batsman accelerated harder and got his fifth Test hundred in 96 balls before the tea break. He came down the wicket and hit Lakshan Sandakan for a boundary to bring up his ton.
The only fastest century by a Bangladeshi than Mominul is Tamim’s 94 balls against England at Lord’s in 2010. Tamim also scored centuries in 100 balls (against England in Manchester) and 101 balls (versus India in Dhaka.
It was not the first time Mominul has reached a century before facing 100 balls. In 2013, he made his maiden Test century in 98 balls against New Zealand at the same venue. His next three hundreds came in 169, 167 and 156 balls.

The pocket dynamo’s 96-ball century is the second-fastest Test century in Bangladeshi soil after Tillakaratne Dilshan’s 93 in Chittagong in 2008/09.
Four out of Mominul’s five Test centuries have come at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, the most at this venue. Only Imrul Kayes, Dilshan and Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar have more than one century at the venue.
