A child has died after getting into trouble in a swimming pool at an Egyptian holiday resort.
The girl, from County Durham, was taken to hospital after the incident at the Jaz Makadi Aquaviva hotel in Hurghada on 21 December.
She was later flown home to the UK, where she died five days later.
Tour operator Tui said: “We send our deepest condolences to the family and continue to offer every assistance possible.”
The company arranged for the girl’s family, who are believed to be from Bishop Auckland, to travel home early.
The Foreign Office said it had not been asked to help but would try to support the family if required.
“We are aware of reports of the tragic death of a British child after an incident in a swimming pool in Egypt,” a spokeswoman said.
“Assistance was provided in this case by the family’s tour operator.”
