‘Maarutha’ likely to intensify further

The cyclonic storm ‘Maarutha’ (Ecp 996 hpa) over east-central Bay and adjoining area moved north-northeastwards further, reports UNB quoting the Met office.

It lies over the same area (near lat 16.4 & deg;n and long 92.2 & deg;e) on Saturday morning.

It was centered about 645 km south of Chittagong port, 560 km south of Cox’s Bazar port, 735 km south-southeast of Mongla port and 655 km south-southeast of Payra port.

It is likely to intensify further and move in a north-northeasterly direction.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 54 km of the cyclonic storm centre is about 62 kph rising to 88 kph in gusts/squalls. Sea will remain very rough.

Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted distant warning signal number two (r) two.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice so that they can take shelter immediately.
