In honor of the 56th Independence and National Day, President Mohammed Shahabuddin and his wife, Dr. Rebeka Sultana, will throw a reception at Bangabhaban tomorrow.
“Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to attend the event at the green lawns of the Bangabhaban, the presidential palace, in the afternoon,” said a spokesman familiar with the matter.
“Besides, over 15,000 guests, including cabinet members, political leaders, ambassadors and high commissioners of different countries, Supreme Court judges, chiefs of the three services, members of parliament, academics, business community leaders, artistes, valiant Freedom Fighters and family members of Birshreshtha gallantry award recipients and distinguished citizens were invited,” he added.
Every year, March 26 serves as a somber reminder of the darkest moment in history, which marked the start of a terrible nine-month experience that began on the evening of March 25, 1971, and ultimately resulted in the long-cherished freedom on December 16 of that same year at the cost of a sea of blood.
The Prime Minister and President will also cut a cake on the occasion. They will greet the injured freedom fighters as well as other dignitaries and attendees.
On the occasion, there will also be a cultural program and light refreshments.
