A terrible traffic collision beneath a flyover of Bishwaroad in Padua Bazar of the Jangalia area of Cumilla Sadar Dakkhin upazila of the district overnight midnight resulted in at least 12 fatalities and 10 injuries.
At least three bus passengers were instantly murdered and dozens were injured when the “Chattogram Mail Train,” which was headed for Dhaka, struck a passenger bus as the bus driver attempted to cross a nearby rail line.
Twelve bus passengers were certified dead by the on-duty doctors at Cumilla Medical College Hospital after being rescued by locals and firefighters.
Cumilla Sadar Thana Sub Inspector (SI) Jony Barua said that 12 people were killed in the accident and 10 others injured. The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately, he added. Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Md Iddris said that three passengers were killed on the spot while nine others succumbed to their injuries in the medical. Train services on the Dhaka-Chattogram railway route were suspended for about three hours after the accident, he said. Police said the bodies have been sent to hospital morgue for autopsy. The authority concerned is working to find out the reason behind the accident.
