Tourists and locals alike flocked to Cox’s Bazar sea beach for a two-day photography and documentary exhibition that focused on the former prime minister’s family life and four decades of political battle.
The Bogura Media and Cultural Society, Dhaka, arranged the show, which took place at Sugandha Point. The exhibit featured significant events in Begum Zia’s political path, such as her leadership, incarceration, and steadfast contribution to Bangladesh’s democracy movement, all set against the backdrop of undulating waves and the sea air.
Rows of framed photographs were arranged on the sandy beach, attracting tourists, local residents, and leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organizations. As visitors gathered during sunset, the seashore took on the atmosphere of a silent space of remembrance and respect.
Organizers said Begum Khaleda Zia’s life symbolizes an uncompromising struggle for democracy, adding that the exhibition aims to present real political history to the younger generation.
The exhibition brought Begum Khaleda Zia’s struggles to life in front of visitors, who praised it as a potent fusion of politics and history.
Twelve venues nationwide have already hosted the exhibition, including eight divisional cities and districts that are strongly linked to Begum Zia’s political activity.
Last January, previous activities were successfully held at Dhaka’s Zia Udyan and Justice Shahabuddin Park.
Lutfur Rahman Kajal, a parliamentary candidate for Cox’s Bazar-3 and the Fishermen Affairs Secretary for the BNP National Executive Committee, formally opened the exhibition at the waterfront on Saturday evening.
Speaking at the inauguration, Kajal said Cox’s Bazar holds many memories of Begum Zia, and the exhibition would play a significant role in familiarizing the general public with the history of her political life and struggles.
Comparing her life to the relentless waves of the sea, visitors described Begum Zia’s journey as a story of repeatedly overcoming adversity and returning with resilience.
Aminul Islam, Joint General Secretary of Bogura Media and Cultural Society, said the objective of exhibition is to highlight Begum Khaleda Zia’s life of struggle to the young generation.
