Drone flights banned at airports, adjacent areas

Due to significant threats to national security and safe aircraft operations, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has outlawed drone flights at all airports and nearby locations.

Unauthorized drone operations are completely forbidden at airports, including Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, and their surrounding zones under the Drone Registration and Operation Policy 2020, according to a formal letter from the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh.

The authority noted that despite the existing ban, some electronic media outlets operated drones without permission on December 19 while covering the arrival of the body of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi at the airport in the presence of three advisers and other important persons.

According to the letter, such unapproved drone flights seriously jeopardize safe air navigation and aircraft movement.

In the sake of aviation safety and national security, CAAB advised members of the public and representatives of electronic media to firmly desist from using drones in and near airport regions.
