UN briefs political parties on EC assistance efforts

In advance of the national elections, the United Nations (UN) briefed registered political parties today on its technical assistance to the Bangladesh Election Commission (BEC), outlining support targeted at bolstering operational capacity, enhancing voter education, and encouraging greater inclusion and information integrity.

According to a UN press release here, the UN team gave political party representatives a summary of the main elements of their electoral assistance during the meeting, which was followed by a question-and-answer period.

Under the BALLOT Project, the UN is supporting the election commission through staff training, voter and civic education initiatives, the supply of essential election materials, and measures to enhance inclusivity in the electoral process.

The UN said its assistance strictly adheres to core principles, including respect for national sovereignty and ownership, the promotion of human rights, and an unwavering commitment to impartiality, neutrality and independence.
