In an effort to increase commerce in halal-certified goods, the Pakistan Halal Authority (PHA) and the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in Halal commerce.
The Memorandum of Understanding, which was signed today in Dhaka during the 9th Meeting of the Bangladesh-Pakistan Joint Economic Commission (JEC), intends to strengthen cooperation in halal product standards, certification, and trade facilitation.
According to a news release, Imran Haider, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, signed the deal on behalf of the Government of Pakistan, while Maqsura Noor, additional secretary of the Ministry of Industries, did so on behalf of the Government of Bangladesh.
Finance Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed led the Bangladeshi team to the 9th JEC, while Ali Pervaiz Malik, Minister of Petroleum, Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division), led the Pakistani delegation.
The 10th meeting of the Joint Economic Commission (JEC) will take place in Islamabad at a time that works for both parties, and both delegations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic ties.
