Holy Ashura to be observed on July 6

The sacred day of Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussein (RA), grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), at the Battle of Karbala, will be observed in Bangladesh on July 6th. This follows the sighting of the moon for the month of Muharram today, marking the beginning of the 1447 Hijri year tomorrow.

The Islamic Foundation confirmed the date in a press release issued today. The decision was reached during a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee, held this evening at the Islamic Foundation conference room within the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. A. F. M. Khalid Hossain, the Religious Affairs Adviser.
