Bangladeshi musicologist Mustafa Zaman Abbasi dies

Renowned Bangladeshi singer, musicologist, author and researcher Mustafa Zaman Abbasi has passed away. He was 87.

He was suffering from age old complications. On Friday, he was admitted to the hospital and there, he breathed his last, reports prothom alo.

Born in a musical family, his father Abbasuddin Ahmed was a legendary folklore composer and singer. He is credited for popularizing folk song all over the world. Mr. Mustafa Zaman’s paternal uncle Abdul Karim was also a folk singer. His father Mustafa Kamal was the 9th Chief Justice of Bangladesh. Mustafa Kamal’s daughter Nashid Kamal is also a renowned singer. Mustafa Zaman Abbasi’s sister Ferdausi Rahman is a renowned singer in Bangladesh.

Mustafa Zaman Abbasi was born on December 8, 1936 in Coochbihar. He spent his childhood in Kolkata. He completed his BA honors and masters from University of Dhaka respectively in 1959 and 1960.
