At Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus honored the late Pope Francis today.
Prior to the burial on Saturday, Pope Francis’s dead remains lay in state there.
At St. Peter Square, the Chief Adviser and the Bangladesh team were formally greeted by His Most Reverend Eminence Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, Vicar General of His Holiness for Vatican City.
Prof. Yunus will return to St. Peter Square on Saturday at approximately 9:30 am to attend His Holiness Pope Francis’ funeral mass.
Late Pope Francis was the big admirer of the Prof Yunus’s work for the marginalised people across the globe and his vision for a ‘Three Zero World’ where there will be no unemployment, no poverty and zero carbon emission.
The Vatican also launched a joint Three Zero Initiative in Rome with the 2006 Nobel Peace Laureate, Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder told BSS.
Chief Adviser Prof Yunus arrived in Rome this afternoon to attend the funeral of His Holiness Pope Francis.
At approximately 2:15 p.m. (Italian time), he arrived in Rome and was greeted by the ambassadors of Bangladesh to Italy and Vatican City.
Around 9:25 a.m. (12:25 p.m. Bangladesh Standard Time), Prof. Yunus departed Qatar for Vatican City earlier in the day to pay his final respects to Pope Francis, an old friend.
He was dropped off at Doha’s Hamad International Airport by Ibrahim bin Yousif Abdullah Fakhroo, the State of Qatar’s Chief of Protocol.
Chief Adviser Prof. Yunus is scheduled to depart the Leonardo da Vinci Rome Fiumicino Airport at approximately 8:00 am (12:00 pm Bangladesh Standard Time) on Sunday after attending Pope Francis’ funeral. He is anticipated to arrive home early on Monday.
