Rapper A$AP Rocky found not guilty in assault trial

At the end of rapper A$AP Rocky’s trial in Los Angeles on Tuesday, a jury declared him not guilty of two charges of felony assault.

If found guilty of the alleged attack on a former acquaintance in Hollywood in 2021, the musician—who has two children with singer Rihanna—would have risked more than 20 years in prison.

The Grammy-nominated hip-hop artist, whose true name is Rakim Mayers, hugged people as he was found not guilty, causing a stir in the Los Angeles courtroom as the decision was read.

Prosecutors said during the weeks-long trial that on November 6, 2021, in the center of Hollywood, Mayers had confronted Terell Ephron, also known as A$AP Relli, and had grazed Ephron’s hand with a semi-automatic rifle.

He had simply been carrying a harmless pretend gun that fired blanks, Mayers had said.

The gun said to have been used in the purported attack could not be produced by either side.
