Canada will hit US with retaliatory tariffs Tuesday: Trudeau

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Saturday that Canada would impose a 25 percent tax of its own on a few American items in retaliation for the US tariffs.

“Canada will be responding to the US trade action with 25 percent tariffs against Can$155 billion ($106 million) worth of American goods,” he stated rhetorically, warning of a rift in long-standing Canada-US relations.

Tuesday’s initial round of duties will target US goods valued at Can$30 billion, with further levies on Can$125 billion worth of goods to come in three weeks.
