Myanmar junta extends state of emergency by six months: statement

The junta in Myanmar, which is fighting to put a stop to extensive armed opposition following its 2021 coup, extended a period of emergency by six months on Friday.

According to a statement from the junta’s information team, the extension was unanimously authorized by the ruling military council, which is led by army chief Min Aung Hlaing.
