HSIA issues vaccination guidelines for Hajj, Umrah pilgrims

In accordance with the most recent health rules in Saudi Arabia, Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) has released new recommendations mandating meningitis immunization for pilgrims performing the Hajj and Umrah.

The effective date of this directive is February 10.

The new regulations were outlined in an official letter addressed today to all airlines and airport stakeholders by HSIA Executive Director Group Captain Kamrul Islam.

The instructions state that anyone visiting Saudi Arabia for the Hajj, Umrah, or on a visitation visa is subject to the rule.

At least ten days prior to their trip, pilgrims must obtain the meningitis vaccine, and they must have their certificate of vaccination with them.

The regulation does not, however, require vaccinations for children less than one year.

Furthermore, people who have had the vaccination within the last three years are exempt from having to get it again in order to enter Saudi Arabia.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Saudi Arabia has already directed all airlines to begin enforcing this regulation on February 10.
