India yet to respond to letter seeking Hasina’s repatriation: Touhid

Foreign Affairs Advisor M Touhid Hossain revealed today that Bangladesh has yet to hear back from New Delhi on the letter sent from Dhaka to assist Sheikh Hasina’s return.

Speaking to reporters at the foreign ministry here this afternoon, he briefly disclosed this information.

The adviser responded, “I also learned about it through media,” when questioned about New Delhi’s decision to extend the visa of previously deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. What are our options?

The foreign adviser reaffirmed, “We have not yet received any response for the letter sent to India for her return,” when asked if a response had been received to the letter requesting Sheikh Hasina’s return.

Dhaka requested in a diplomatic letter to New Delhi on December 23 that she return to Bangladesh from India on charges of crimes against humanity.

Prime Minister Hasina fled the country and sought safety in India after a student-led mass rebellion overthrew the Awami League government on August 5, 2024.
