A new regulation to safeguard trees is being drafted, according to Environment Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan, and it will contain specific prohibitions against using nails for advertising.
In order to halt this detrimental behavior, she emphasized the necessity of public cooperation.
“Once the law is enacted, violators will face the music,” she declared as she removed the nails from trees on the road next to the capital’s Abahani Ground’s south gate to kick off a tree protection campaign.
Rizwana said trees supply oxygen to the environment, and driving nails into them disrupts their growth, ultimately leading to their death.
“Such actions harm the environment.”
On New Year’s Eve, the advisor advised everyone to avoid using noise-producing firecrackers and pyrotechnics.
In order to safeguard biodiversity and public health, she noted, the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change’s mobile courts will hold drives against fireworks tonight.
Additionally, the Environment Adviser participated in an executive magistrates’ orientation training for mobile court operations.
She directed them to take stern measures against those responsible for air pollution.
The events were attended by the Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Dr. Farhina Ahmed; Acting Director General of the Department of Environment, Dr. Fahmida Khanom; Chief Conservator of Forests, Md. Amir Hosain Chowdhury; along with officials from Dhaka North and South City Corporations, RAJUK, BRTA, and 35 executive magistrates from the Department of Environment and other organisations.
