“The works of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam are a shared cultural heritage of India and Bangladesh that set a base to uphold closer people-to-people ties between the two neighbouring countries,” said Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma today.
“The works of Kobi Nazrul… provide us with a special opportunity to establish stronger cultural and interpersonal ties between the two nations,” he stated.
According to a news statement from the Indian High Commission, the envoy was speaking at a musical evening of Shyama Sangeet by Kazi Nazrul Islam, which was hosted at the Indian Cultural Centre in Dhaka by the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC).
Renowned artists Tito Munshi, Mridula Samadder and Bijon Chandra Mistry performed selected works of Nazrul’s Shyama Sangeet in the event.
Prominent figures from Bangladesh’s art and cultural communities participated in the program.
According to the high commissioner, Kazi Nazrul Islam, the national poet of Bangladesh, enjoys equal popularity in Bangladesh and India.
Nazrul wrote the Shyama Sangeet, a collection of over a hundred devotional songs on Goddess Maa Kali.
