Shakib Al Hasan will not be part of the Bangladesh squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, according to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed.
The series is set to begin on November 6 in the UAE, which serves as the adopted venue for the Afghan team.
“He (Shakib) is highly likely to miss the series against Afghanistan due to lack of practice. He has been out of cricket for some time and hasn’t done any practice,” Faruque told reporters in Chattogram today. “He needs some time to get back in shape for cricket, so it’s the reason that he may miss the series.”
Just a day ago, Faruque had mentioned that the ace all-rounder was available for the Afghanistan series. However, he clarified that the decision not to play was Shakib’s own.
“But if he is fit enough, he can feature in the all-format West Indies tour,” Faruque added. The West Indies tour is scheduled to start on November 22.
Bangladesh is set to depart for the UAE on November 3 in two separate groups. The squad for the series has yet to be announced. The first match will take place on November 6, followed by the next two matches on November 9 and 11.
