Egypt rail crash kills 3 including two children

Three persons were killed when two trains crashed in northern Egypt on Saturday, according to the state media and the health ministry. Two of the victims were youngsters.

It was the most recent in a string of fatal mishaps that have plagued Egypt’s vast train system, which is plagued by old infrastructure and poor administration.

The accident occurred in Zagazig, 80 kilometres (50 miles) north of Cairo, and resulted in 49 further injuries, according to information posted by the ministry on Facebook.

According to the state-run newspaper Al-Ahram, two kids were among the deceased.

The 105 million people who live in Egypt mostly rely on rail transport, yet despite being one of the biggest in Africa, the network has seen numerous fatal incidents.

In 2021, around 40 persons lost their lives in two accidents that happened in less than a month.
