Last month, the general point-to-point inflation rate decreased marginally, reaching 10.49 percent in August 2024, primarily as a result of a decreasing trend in food inflation.
According to the most recent data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the general point-to-point inflation rate was 11.66 percent in July 2024.
The BBS data indicated that the food inflation rate decreased from 14.10 percent in the previous month to 11.36 percent in August 2024. Conversely, the non-food inflation rate marginally increased from 9.68 percent in July 2024 to 9.74 percent last month.
The general point-to-point inflation in both urban and rural areas also decreased last month.
In August, the point-to-point inflation rate in rural areas was 10.95 percent, a decrease from 11.89 percent in July. However, the point-to-point inflation rate in urban areas decreased from 11.27 percent in July to 10.01 percent in August.
In August, the wage rate index experienced an increase of 7.96 percent, compared to 7.93 percent in July.
