Zakir Ahmed Khan, a former finance secretary, is now the chairman of the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF).
Upon his arrival at PKSF Bhaban today, he was welcomed by PKSF’s acting Managing Director Md Fazlul Kader and Additional Managing Director Dr Md Jashim Uddin.
Deputy Managing Directors AQM Golam Mawla, Md Mashiar Rahman, Dr Fazle Rabbi Sadeque Ahmed, Md Hasan Khaled, Dr Akond Md Rafiqul Islam, and other key officials were also present there, said a press release.
After taking control, Zakir Ahmed Khan met the senior executives of PKSF who briefed him on the extensive spectrum of PKSF’s initiatives targeted at poverty alleviation through employment generation in a sustainable manner.
Zakir Ahmed Khan was named the eighth Chairman of the Pakistan KSF by the government on August 28, 2024, and he will serve a three-year term.
Before joining the Pakistan Audit and Accounts Service in 1970, he served briefly as a research associate in the Bureau of Economic Research and as a lecturer in Economics, University of Dhaka. He also served as a part time lecturer in the Department of Finance, University of Dhaka.
After serving as the World Bank’s alternate executive director for Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, and Sri Lanka, Zakir Ahmed Khan retired in February 2009. He served as the Finance Secretary, the Secretary of Internal Resources Division and the Chairman of National Board of Revenue for about five years. Zakir held various senior-level positions in Bangladesh Audit and Accounts Department, Ministries of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources, Civil Aviation & Tourism, Establishment, Finance, Commerce, and Cabinet Division.
In addition, he served as an external auditor for the United Nations Development Program, United Nations Fund for Population Activities, United Nations Industrial Development Organization, and United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America. He was also employed as a senior national consultant for the government of Bangladesh’s public sector financial reform program.
Zakir completed his MA in Economics from the University of Dhaka and MBA from Vrije University, Brussels, Belgium. He also studied Development Economics and Development Administration at the Colorado State University as a Hubert Humphrey fellow.
