At the Kashimpur High Security Jail in Gazipur, 209 inmates have escaped after holding jail guards hostage during a demonstration.
Three militants and six other persons were killed on Tuesday afternoon when prison guards opened fire to stop the inmates from fleeing.
Speaking to Prothom Alo, jail chief Subrata Kumar Bala claimed that approximately 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, a group of militants and detainees began a protest revolt demanding their release. Detainees attempted to escape at the time. They escaped the custody of the prison guards. After the communication was received, the troops arrived at the jail via helicopters.
Six prisoners were killed as prison guards opened fire for their own safety. At the time, 209 inmates ran away.
The Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College in Gazipur received the bodies.
