20 lakh people affected by flood in 15 districts: Mohibbur

According to State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Mohibbur Rahman, this year’s floods, which were brought on by excessive rainfall and water onrush, have impacted about 20 lakh people across 15 districts.

“We have distributed adequate amount of relief material including rice, dry food and cash incentives among flood-hit people in 15 districts of the country,” he told a meeting at his ministry,” Jahid Hossain Khan, public relation officer of the ministry told BSS.

The districts affected by flooding are Sylhet, Sunamganj, Netrakona, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Rangpur, Jamalpur, Gaibandha, Feni, Rangamati, Bogura, Kurigram, Sirajganj, Lalmonirhat, and Cox’s Bazar, according to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.

According to the state minister, the government has allotted 8,700 tons of rice, 3.10 crore Taka in cash, 58,500 sacks of dry food, 60 lakh Taka for infant food, and 60 lakh for fodder for districts affected by flooding.

36,223 shelters were used by flood victims to seek safety, he continued.

According to Mohibur, no casualties were reported during the three flood spells, while the flooding severely damaged 20 lakh people in the northern and northern regions.

“There is a possibility of another spell of flood in the month of August or September, the minister said, “We are taking preparation as per the directives of the Prime Minister.”

All necessary items were given to the local lawmakers, deputy commissioners and upazila nirbahi officers as per their demand and there is no reason for lack of relief, he added.
