South Africa’s Ramaphosa to be sworn in as president

Following his weaker African National Congress (ANC) striking a deal to form a government coalition, Cyril Ramaphosa, the president of South Africa, is scheduled to take office on Wednesday at a ceremony in Pretoria.

Following an undecided general election on May 29, lawmakers decisively chose to re-elect the 71-year-old last week.

“It will once again be a privilege and a pleasure to once again service this nation,” Ramaphosa told parliament on Friday.

At the Union Buildings, the seat of government, he will formally begin his second five-year term on Wednesday in front of lawmakers, foreign dignitaries, religious and traditional leaders, and others.

Nearly twenty leaders of state and government, many of them are from nearby countries, are anticipated to participate, according to the presidency, and more confirmations are being received.

Some of the nations that “will be represented at a high level” were the State of Palestine, China, Egypt, Cuba, Zimbabwe, and Angola.

A 21-gun salute, an air force flyby, and musical and cultural performances are all planned for the celebration.

Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, the head of the constitutional court, will swear Ramaphosa in before he gives his inaugural speech.
