Free government houses bring self-dignity for homeless people: PM

According to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the free homes provided by the Ashrayan projects are giving the homeless and landless people a sense of dignity and respect for themselves.

“Houses are being given free of cost under various Ashrayan projects. So, the living standard of the landless and homeless people has changed which brought self-dignity for them and made them self-confident. It is important for Bangladesh’s development,” she said.

The prime minister said this while presenting 18,566 additional dwellings to families who were homeless or without land as a gift before Eid nationwide as part of the government’s flagship Ashrayan-2 Prakalpa housing program, which aims to provide shelter for everyone.

Via video conference from an event at her official Ganabhaban mansion here, she gave the beneficiaries the houses together with the land ownership paperwork.

“We’re providing the houses as Eid gift,” sheikh Hasina said.

She said her government’s main duty is to serve the people as they have kept confidence in the Awami League and voted the her party to power time and again.

“Our duty is to serve the people. My father announced himself as the servant of the people. I am also working as the servant of the people following the footprints of my father,” she added.

According to the prime minister, her government is striving to provide the people with a better and more beautiful existence, as envisioned by the nation’s father.

Sheikh Hasina claimed that after 21 years of following the Father of the Nation’s footsteps, her administration first launched the Ashrayan project in 1997, providing homes to 70 families on Saint Martin Island in Cox’s Bazar.

In a succinct description of the efforts being taken to guarantee universal access to healthcare, educate everyone, and lift people out of the grip of poverty, she declared that Bangladesh would not fall behind in the future.
