Iran says Israel strike kills Guards’ Syria intel chief, 3 others

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ intelligence chief for Syria, his deputy, and two other Guards personnel were killed on Saturday in an Israeli strike on Damascus, according to Iranian media.

“The Revolutionary Guards’ Syria intel chief, his deputy and two other Guards members were martyred in the attack on Syria by Israel,” Iran’s Mehr news agency said, quoting an informed but unnamed source.

The Revolutionary Guards announced in a statement that four of its comrades had perished in the attack on the Syrian capital and charged Israel with being the attack’s mastermind.

The official Syrian news agency SANA said a residential building in the Mazzeh neighbourhood of Damascus was targeted in what it called “an Israeli aggression”.

The Israeli strike, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor, targeted pro-Iranian Palestinian organizations as well as a neighborhood that housed Guards leaders.

The Revolutionary Guard claimed to have targeted “an Israeli intelligence headquarters” in Arbil, the capital of Kurdistan, a province in northern Iraq, four days before to the Israeli strike.

According to Iraqi officials, the attack left six civilians injured and four dead.
