Palestinian activism Ismail Haniyeh, head of Hamas’ political bureau, claimed that Hamas has warned all interested parties that as long as combat persists, it has no intention of holding discussions concerning the fate of its Israeli prisoners.
“We have informed all parties that the cases of our Israeli captives will not be opened until fighting ends,” he noted, as cited by the Al Hadath TV channel.
Haniyeh added that “it will only be possible to resolve the issue of captive Israelis on Hamas’ terms.”
According to Haniyeh, the operation that radical fighters were conducting in Israel is “a Palestinian fight, both in terms of the decision [about the operation] and its implementation.”
Senior Hamas leader Musa Abu Marzouk previously declared the release of at least 100 more hostages, among them, according to Palestinian sources, are Israeli soldiers, specifically high-ranking commanders, as well as civilians.
Ziyad al-Nakhalah, the secretary general of the Islamic Jihad, made the assertion that more than 30 Israeli individuals had been apprehended nearby the Gaza Strip not long ago. He claims that those taken prisoner include Jewish settlers and personnel of the Israeli military.
Following a Gaza shelling attack on October 7, members of the hardline Palestinian organisation Hamas invaded Israel. The most recent statistics show that conflicts and attacks have killed close to 800 Palestinians and injured over 4,000 others. Over 2,000 Israelis have been hurt, and there have been about 800 fatalities.
