Seven football fans die, dozens injured in Brazil bus crash

In southeastern Brazil on Sunday, a bus transporting football fans lost control and crashed, causing at least seven fatalities and 27 injuries, according to fire officials.

According to them, the collision happened on a highway close to Belo Horizonte in the state of Minas Gerais.

According to passengers surveyed by the G1 news website, the motorist exclaimed that he was without brakes just before losing control.

On the van were more than 40 supporters of the Sao Paulo football team Corinthians who had just returned from a game in Belo Horizonte.

Firefighters from Minas Gerais lieutenant Fernando Frois revealed the number of fatalities but did not specify the health of those who were hospitalized.

The bus was unregistered and did not have permission to transport people across states, according to a statement from the nation’s National Agency of Land Transportation (ANTT).

The Brazilian Football Confederation and clubs from all around Brazil offered their sympathies to the victims’ families and friends.
