France suspends aid to Burkina Faso

France has suspended economic and budgetary help to Burkina Faso, the French foreign ministry stated on Sunday.

The remark comes only days after Burkina Faso and Mali said that any military involvement against Niger’s new military authorities would be considered a “declaration of war.”

Last Sunday, the West African bloc ECOWAS gave Niger’s new authorities a week to give over power to democratically elected President Mohamed Bazoum or face military intervention.

On Saturday, France’s foreign ministry stated that it “firmly and resolutely” supported ECOWAS’ efforts to reintroduce Bazoum.
