State funeral for Berlusconi in Milan Duomo Wednesday

The local diocese said on Monday that former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, who passed away at age 86, would receive a state funeral in Milan’s cathedral.

The Milan Diocese announced on its website that “Silvio Berlusconi’s state funeral will take place on Wednesday June 14 in the Milan Duomo.”

The eccentric figure, who once compared himself to Jesus, served as Italy’s prime minister for the longest period of time but was also dogged by scandal.

Even after receiving a leukemia diagnosis, he continued to be involved in politics as a senator and a member of right-wing Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s government.

In addition, Berlusconi had enormous power due to his ownership of the football team AC Milan, his business holdings in television and newspapers (he basically developed commercial TV in Italy), and his personal wealth, which made him the country’s richest person for a decade.
