Eleven individuals, including some children, were murdered as a result of a gas leak from a factory that also affected surrounding households. Authorities believe victims perished as a result of “gas contamination.”
According to police, a gas leak from a factory in Punjab’s Ludhiana area killed at least 11 people, including two children and two women.
More people were thought to be trapped inside the factory.
On Sunday, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was rushed to the scene.
“I am on the ground right now. All our teams, including the disaster relief team and doctors, are here,” Surabhi Malik, deputy commissioner of police in Ludhiana, told DW. “We are still investigating the reason for the leak,” she said.
Malik later told Press Trust of India news agency that the gas may have spread from manholes and may have been produced as a result of chemical reactions with methane.
