Beginning on April 5, the metro train will be open for six hours, from 8:00 am to 2:00 am. Currently, the train runs from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon.
The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd. managing director, MAN Siddique, made this announcement on Thursday during a news conference held in the capital’s Eskaton.
He claimed that starting on Friday, the metro rail will halt at Uttara South and Shewrapara, opening up a total of nine stations.
The MD declared that starting in July of next year, the train will operate continuously. From that point forward, the metro will operate every day from early dawn until midnight.
According to MAN Siddique, as of yesterday, Wednesday, the metro train carried 1.77 million passengers and generated Tk 62 million in revenue while incurring Tk 73.3 million in expenses.
The largest portion of expenses went toward electricity, with the remainder going toward paying employees’ wages and maintaining the trains.
“We promised to the people that we will open all nine stations within March. We have been able to meet the deadline. The work of metro rail from Agargaon to Motijheel is in the last stage,” he added.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the electricity-powered metro rail on 28 December.
