Jon Jones, a legendary figure in mixed martial arts, defeated France’s Ciryl Gane in the first round to win the vacated UFC heavyweight title on Saturday.
After more than three years away, the former light heavyweight champion Jones pushed Gane into a submission at just 2 minutes and 4 seconds of the first round to secure the victory.
The 35-year-old American, generally regarded as the greatest mixed martial artist of all time, outwitted his 32-year-old French rival by applying all of his knowledge and expertise.
Jones had confidently predicted before the fight that he would beat Gane quickly, but Gane showed signs of trepidation by kicking Jones in the groin in the first few seconds, which necessitated a timeout.
In the meantime, Jones demonstrated his reliability by skillfully dodging Gane’s erratic left hand and pinning the unbalanced Frenchman to the ground.
The Parisian submitted after Jones trapped him in a guillotine chokehold and swiftly got Gane into trouble.
