Jamshed, 52, who was believed to be on board with his family, was a recording artist previously awarded a Medal of Excellence by the President of Pakistan.
The singer-songwriter is responsible for one of the biggest hits in Pakistani music history – Dil Dil Pakistan, which you can view below.
In a 2003 BBC World Service international poll of popular songs, Dil Dil Pakistan came third.
The song has been hailed as an unofficial national anthem of Pakistan and its music video was filmed in Pakistani capital, Islamabad.
In most scenes of the video, the members of the band are riding bikes or driving a jeep around the city.
In one scene, the group is performing on the slope of a small hill.
At the end, all of the band members appear in a rather simplistic studio and the video ends after a few seconds.
After graduating with a degree in engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology (Lahore), Jamshed briefly worked as a civilian contractor and engineer for the Pakistan Air Force before focusing on a musical career.
He soon began performing on various local university campuses before being noticed by pop singer Rohail Hyatt in 1983.
Jamshed first gained nationwide prominence and international recognition as group Vital Signs vocalist in 1987.
In 1994, he released his debut solo album, Junaid of Vital Signs, which also quickly became a national hit, followed by Us Rah Par in 1999 and Dil Ki Baat in 2002.
In 2004, Jamshed officially renounced music after announcing that he had devoted his life to Islam.
