Two Palestinians were murdered by Israeli troops in separate instances in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, according to the Palestinian health ministry, the latest in a string of deadly conflicts in the region.
According to sources on both sides, a 16-year-old was killed in an exchange of fire with troops conducting an arrest operation outside the northern city of Nablus. According to the health ministry, a Palestinian in his twenties was slain in Qalandiya, just outside Jerusalem.
According to the ministry, Nader Haitham Rayan, 16, died in Balata camp near Nablus after being shot in the head, chest, and hand. It did not provide any additional information about the circumstances surrounding his demise.
A spokeswoman for Israel’s border police confirmed the death of a Palestinian “terrorist.”
“A terrorist fired at our troops who responded and killed him,” the spokesman said.
The exchange of fire came as Israeli troops were leaving the camp after arresting a Palestinian fugitive wanted for terrorism offenses.
“Just as they were preparing to exit the camp, a terrorist arrived on a motorbike and fired towards them,” the spokesman added.
