SERAC Bangladesh has celebrated International Women’s Day 2022 with the slogan, “Gender Equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, collaboration with IPAS Bangladesh under the Improving SRHR in Dhaka project, Where the hard-working women of the selected 10 areas have been honored for their greater contribution in the community. In this context, the day was celebrated on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at Shewrapara, Pirerbag, Hazaribag and Kamrangirchar areas where 14 women were given the award.
The meeting was organized in Dhaka North and South City Corporation areas with the presence of community young volunteers, general practitioners who are closely working under the project of ‘Improving SRHR in Dhaka’ for women and adolescent-friendly health care services and to eliminate gender-based violence. SERAC honored the contribution of women of different professions and positions in the development of the community and they are Medical Officer- Dr. Fatima Nasrin; Assistant Headmistress of Alim Uddin High School – Ferdous Jahan; Paramedics of Smiling Sun Clinic – Shayla Akhter, Dr. Romani Akter (expert in women & child) of Shawrapara area, Dr. Yasmin of Mirpur area; Shaheed Shamsunnesa ArjuMoni Ma o Shishu Kallayn Kendro-Dr. Sakila Akhter, President of Child Protection Committee – Nur Banu Noori, Secretary of Urban Neighborhood Development Committee- Mala Saha, Principal of Tarun Sangha School- Professor Monowara Begum, Dr. Israt Jarin Tinni and Dr. Kamrun Nahar of Hazaribagh area; Headmistress of Janani Kindergarten School- Farhana Lipi and Islambag Urban Family Health Care Family Planning Service Provider- Shahida Begum. All of them are playing a vital role in progressing the rights of disadvantaged adolescents and women, access to all forms of reproductive health care and creating a functioning environment in their respective areas through referral links as well as preventing sexual and gender-based violence. In this context, these awards were being given to honor the contribution made in the education of girls and access health rights of women in the community and also combating gender-based violence.
Monower Hossain, Khadija Kalam and Md. Nazmul Hasan, SBCC Officers of SERAC Bangladesh, Dr. Samiya Mahmud, Program Manager of BAPSA, Md. Mostafa Kamal Bhuiyan and Khadija Mustary Maheen, Program Officers of BAPSA, Dr. Tasnuva Rahman, Clinical Trainer of OGSB, Nusrat Jahan Sultana, Intern of Ipas Bangladesh were present there in the celebration. Other than that, Shewrapara community volunteers, Pirerbag community volunteers, Hazaribag community volunteers and Kamrangirchor Community volunteers were present there to make a collaboration and strengthen the linkage with community members and local general practitioners.
