Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) was overwhelmingly elected as the UN Peacebuilding Commission’s (PBC) Chair today, making her the first woman to hold the position.
The Chair and Vice-Chairs of the PBC were elected at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Vice-chairs were chosen from Egypt and the Dominican Republic.
The Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) is an intergovernmental advisory organization that assists war-affected nations’ peace efforts when they seek it, with the goal of preventing conflict recurrence and guaranteeing inclusive and sustainable development.
The PBC, which was established in 2005, is made up of 31 members elected by the General Assembly, Security Council, and ECOSOC.
Members of the commission include the top money contributors and the top troop contributors to the UN system.
