Rangana Herath, a former Sri Lankan spin legend, has been named Bangladesh’s spin coach for the next two years, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced Monday.
Herath will join Bangladesh’s coaching staff in New Zealand, where the team will compete in a two-match Test series as part of the ICC World Test Championship.
Bangladesh will depart for New Zealand in the early hours of tomorrow (Thursday).
Herath’s contract runs until November 30th, 2023. Herath had previously served as the team’s spin consultant for the team’s away series against Zimbabwe earlier this year, as well as home series against Australia and New Zealand and the ICC Twenty20 World Cup.
With 433 wickets in a spectacular career spanning two decades, he is the most successful left-arm spinner in Test cricket history.
