If no corporates sponsor is found, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will organize a five-team T20 tournament at its own expense. BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon confirmed it.
The tournament will start in mid-November and the matches will be held in Dhaka-Sylhet. However, the BCB has not yet made a final decision on the tournament. An official announcement could be made in the next day or two.
The BCB president said, “Whether it is a corporate tournament or at the expense of the BCB, we have managed to bring it back to the field by organizing the tournament. There will be experienced in how to handle this situation (Covid-19). ‘
Announcing the plan, Papun said, “We will form five teams. In terms of strength, all the teams will be almost the same. If any corporate body wants to take the team, they can take it, otherwise, the BCB will manage it by itself. We have no plans to make money from that tournament. Our first goal is to bring back domestic cricket and then international cricket. That’s what we’re working on.”
BCB wants to host series against West Indies next January. So they are moving towards that goal. Meanwhile, the cricketers have returned to the field in a bio-protected environment amid the COVID-19 epidemic. They are looking forward to playing international matches after competitive domestic cricket.
