Shamim Mohammad receiving the MIT Sloan CIO Leadership Award

The MIT Sloan CIO Symposium published that Shamim Mohammad, SVP, CIO/CTO, CarMax is the winner of the prestigious 2020 MIT Sloan CIO Leadership Award. Shamim Mohammad, Who is a Bangladeshi descent is declared as the winner by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

For 13 years, the award recognizes Chief Information Officers (CIOs) for their exemplary contributions to business through innovative use of information technology. This award recognizes them for there work to lead their organizations to deliver exemplary levels of business value through the innovative use of IT. Shamim Mohammad, Senior Vice President, Chief Information and Technology Officer, Richmond-based Carmax, will receive the prestigious 2020 award.

Carmax is the largest retailer of used cars in America. Shamim works in the technology department of Carmax. He works directly with the CEO of Carmax and is a key member of the company’s senior executive team.

Mr. Mohammad and his teams have been instrumental in CarMax’s digital transformation in all areas of the business, including bringing a true omni-channel experience to CarMax customers, developing world-class supply chain capabilities and leveraging machine learning and artificial intelligence to power the business

Shamim Mohammad, 51, hails from Bhawal Mirzapur in Pirujali Union in Gazipur district. He immigrated to the United States in 1987. He joined Carmax in 2012 as an IT officer.

Dr. Westerman presented the Award to Mr. Mohammad at the MIT Sloan CIO Leadership Award Presentation & Panel public online event on May 19, 2020. The two other distinguished Award finalists were Mojgan Lefebvre, EVP, Chief Technology & Operations Officer, Travelers and Zeeshan Tariq, VP, CIO, Zimmer Biomet.
