Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged the relevant authorities to act quickly to rehabilitate the street vendors who were forced to leave the city.
According to a PMO press statement, the premier issued the directive during a meeting this afternoon at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in the Tejgaon neighborhood of the city.
According to the statement, the Prime Minister requested that the appropriate ministries and institutions work together to swiftly choose alternate locations for the hawkers’ rehabilitation.
According to the prime minister, the evicted vendors need to be rehabilitated in locations where they may operate profitably and enthusiastically.
The meeting decided that the government will arrange alternative places for the evicted hawkers. Simultaneously, identity cards will be provided to the hawkers through registration so that their activities can be managed in an orderly manner.
The Prime Minister stressed on taking necessary measures to reduce traffic congestion in the city during school time. He observed that uncontrolled vehicle parking in front of educational institutions causing traffic congestion. He suggested using a portion of the individual educational institutions’ grounds for parking as a solution to this issue.
Attendees included DNCC Administrator Md. Safiqul Islam Khan, DSCC Administrator Abdus Salam, DIG Traffic Anisur Rahman, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) acting Commissioner Md. Sarwar, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) Chairman Engineer Md. Reazul Islam, and Local Government Division Secretary Md. Shahidul Hassan.
Several hundred stores were recently forced off the roadways in the DNCC-affiliated Mirpur-1 region and the DSCC-affiliated Motijheel, Baitul Mukarram, Paltan, and Gulistan sectors.
