The German government confirmed on Wednesday that it is facilitating the evacuation of around 24 of its nationals from the conflict-ridden Gaza Strip. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Christian Wagner stated that the operation is being conducted “in close cooperation with the Israeli authorities to allow people to leave.”
Wagner further noted that there remains “a small, single-digit number” of other Germans in Gaza who have expressed a desire to leave. Earlier this month, Germany successfully evacuated 19 of its citizens and 14 of their relatives from the region.Metronieuws.nl
The evacuation efforts come as Israel has resumed intense aerial and ground assaults in Gaza following the collapse of a ceasefire agreement that had been in effect since January 19. The renewed hostilities have led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people. Additionally, Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, announced on Wednesday that the country would continue to block humanitarian aid from entering Gaza.
